In The News: First day of same-sex marriage in Washington

On December 6, Washington officially became the seventh state to allow same-sex marriages. As of midnight last night, any couple that received their marriage certificate on the 6th could legally be married! Seeing all the happy newly weds gives me happy tears!

Mary Davidson, 27, left, and Monica Rozgay, 29, smile after saying ‘I do’ at their midnight wedding at The Seattle Yacht Club early Sunday December 9, 2012. Rozgay and Davidson, of Seattle, were one of the first couples to wed following the passage of Referendum 74, which approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in the state of Washington.

We are excited to convert our domestic partnership and get legally married in an intimate ceremony on Dec. 9th in Spokane. Christopher Rogers (22) and Matthew Dill (24). Together 2 years, domestic partners for 1 year.

Congratulations to everyone! It's been a long time coming, and my high hope is that other states, and the country overall, will follow in our footsteps.

Wise Words On Love

Sometimes, I have so much love inside of me that all I can do is cry. How does that make any sense at all?

Falling in love is an intense and oddly confusing feeling. There's a mix of being immersed in a stupor of romance and possibility, but also the vulnerability of falling too hard and getting hurt. You want the whole world to know how you feel, but even you can't articulate the emotion running through you. All you know is it feels good, and you don't want it to stop.

One of my favorite bloggers (Joanna Goddard) posted this, and I had to share.

Back in 1958, John Steinbeck, author of East of Eden, The Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men, got a letter from his teenage son Thom, in which Thom confessed that he had fallen desperately in love with a girl named Susan at his boarding school.

Steinbeck wrote this wise and wonderful letter back to him the same day...

New York
November 10, 1958
Dear Thom:

We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.

First -- if you are in love -- that's a good thing -- that's about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don't let anyone make it small or light to you.

Second -- There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you -- of kindness and consideration and respect -- not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as unique and valuable. The first kind can make you sick and small and weak but the second can release in you strength, and courage and goodness and even wisdom you didn't know you had.

You say this is not puppy love. If you feel so deeply -- of course it isn't puppy love.

But I don't think you were asking me what you feel. You know better than anyone. What you wanted me to help you with is what to do about it -- and that I can tell you.

Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it.

The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it.

If you love someone -- there is no possible harm in saying so -- only you must remember that some people are very shy and sometimes the saying must take that shyness into consideration.

Girls have a way of knowing or feeling what you feel, but they usually like to hear it also.

It sometimes happens that what you feel is not returned for one reason or another -- but that does not make your feeling less valuable and good.

Lastly, I know your feeling because I have it and I'm glad you have it.

We will be glad to meet Susan. She will be very welcome. But Elaine will make all such arrangements because that is her province and she will be very glad to. She knows about love too and maybe she can give you more help than I can.

And don't worry about losing. If it is right, it happens -- The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.

Love,
Fa

A Birthday Valentine's

Happy Valentine's Day

I am a fan of Valentine's Day. Not because it's a day to spend money on flowers and candy, but it's a day to stop and truly appreciate your loved ones.
The boy and I have a few plans tonight. With a birthday boy to celebrate and a little romance mixed in, we'll have a lot of fun!

Happy Birthday, Noah!!I am so happy to call you mine, Valentine.

Woo Me

I am a hopeless romantic. I try to put up a good front, and pretend I don't like all the mushy stuff... but I love to be wooed. There are some days where I live for those little butterlies.

I love receiving little notes.

I love being dipped.

I’ll even admit… yes, I can embrace the use of a good pet name.

Relationships can be tough...love is complicated. But when it's good... it's sooo good.

In the News: WA State's Same-Sex Marriage

In the words of Vice President Joe Biden, "This is a big f***ing deal."

Washington State's Governor, Chris Gregoire  stated yesterday that she supports same-sex marriage and will propose it to the legislator to legalize it in Washington state.

YES!!!!!!!

I could go on-and-on about the issue of same-sex marriage, but I will leave it to these 3 points (clearly I am getting political):

1) Denying same-sex right is discrimination in its most pure and simple form. Marriage should not be a heterosexual privilege.
2) No Church/Religion should determine legal policy.
3) If Kim and Kris can be married for 72 days and then divorce, Becky and Sara… John and Bill  have the RIGHT to display and celebrate their love through the union of marriage.

Bravo Chris Gregoire, bravo.

I am looking forward to the day where I get to show my love and commitment to someone. Regardless of who is waiting for me at the end of that isle (male or female), the right to that special day should be available to me.

Pillow Talk

This is courtesy of a wonderful blog I follow, and I must share:

Scottish designer Joanna Montgomery designed a pillow for couples in long-distance relationships. Each person wears a ring sensor to sleep at night. When one person goes to bed, their lover's pillow begins to glow softly, and you can hear each other's heart beating!

The boy and I were long distance for a short time, but this would have been so cute and comforting to have.
