It's the Weekend!

This weekend my mama will be in town. She is my BIGGEST fan so she comes up to see all my games. Thanks, Ma. Saturday I have a quick morning practice and then we plan to (if the weather holds out) take our pups to the park. We might also see Snow White and the Huntsman… don't judge me.

My game on Sunday will be the last one until the Fall. I can't believe how much I have fallen in love with derby. I am so glad I swallowed my fears and just got out there. This has been a crazy experience….

Have a fabulous weekend!!!!

ps. I adore this chair. If only the weather was nice enough to sit out back and sip on some vino.

In Love: Derby

I had my first derby bout a few weeks ago. I was nervous the entire day, and was certain I was going to throw up or pass out. Luckily, I had awesome fans to support me. Thank you.

I have been skating since September, and I have fallen in love with the sport. Not only does it work and challenge me physically, but derby requires a lot of mental toughness. It's easy to get intimidated, I mean… these chicks look badass. Fortunately, I have been welcomed into a community of kickass women who are motivating and inspirational. I am constantly being reminded that while I have teammates whom I look up to, there are others who look up to me. For example, while at the game, a little girl came over and asked me for my autograph. SERIOUSLY?! How adorable! I signed the program:

Peanut Brutal, #24

What a feeling!

Putting on ripped nylons, tiny booty shorts, pads and a helmet is awesome. Where else can you do that? I feel sexy and fierce. Our next game: April 29th. Bring it on.

Derby Wings

Tomorrow I have my derby evaluation. This means that I will be evaluated on basic skills in order to be officially placed on a team. If I pass the evaluation, I get to skate my first event.

Holy Cow!
Not only do I get to play, but I get my official derby name! This is a BIG deal!! It’s like an angel getting her wings!!!

Send positive thoughts my way! Derby

Top 6: Currently on My Mind

1) School Stress. I have a few weeks left in my Practicum, and I am struggling to come to terms with that; It's been such an amazing experience. I have a paper, a video and a presentation due soon. I am behind on all of them. I don't know when or where my next practicum will be....worrisome. Trying not to go insane.

2) I often choose the wrong bra to wear. Either the straps show, the cheetah pattern can be seen through the shirt....or it's itchy. This is more frustrating than you might think.

3) Third parental weekend in a row. Noah's family visited the past two weekends, and now my parents are coming up. We plan on a little lounging, movie time, and they want to see my derby practice. Spending some time with my mom will be good for me. She has a special way of centering me and reminding me to "Breathe".

4) I can feel my stomach digesting the indulgent sticky-bun I had for breakfast.

5) First Derby game, March 18th. Sure hope I'm ready for it.

6) "I'm Sorry" might be difficult to say. But when you know it should be said... say it.

Super Suck Sunday

I am doing the SUCK first, because the Super is just too SUPER to followup with stuff that sucks… Anyways…

SUCK

  • Not drinking enough water before Hot Yoga. I mean, the 90 minute class's intention is for you to suffer and push yourself, but this was just ridiculous. I was so parched and off balanced. I will NEVER do that again!
  • The temperature was 28 degrees the other morning. The complete reverse feeling of hot yoga. I wouldn't care as much if I didn't have to let the dog out into the frigid morning. I felt bad for him! Would YOU want to crawl out of your warm bed and pee in below 30 degree weather? Probably not.
  • Starbucks people are supposed to be the best, right? You know, star quality? Why can't they figure out my beverage? I only change one thing about it, but they just can't get it right! Really screws up my morning.
  • The Oregon Ducks lost last night. The game was so intense and stressful that for a majority of the game I was pacing back and forth in front of the T.V. After they lost, I got a bloody nose. Seriously… a bloody frickin nose. Noah can vouch for me; no lie.

SUPER

  • Thanksgiving is next week. This is an easy one. Not only do I get to partake in the eating-until-you-can't-eat-one-more-bite-then-take-a-nap-and-eat-some-more tradition, but the boy and I get to go home and be with our families. Now THAT's something to be thankful for.
  • Roller Derby! I love it. I love pushing myself. I love the community that I have been welcomed in to. We get uniforms soon, and I have applied for my Derby name. Apparently the application of a derby name is a pretty big deal. Who knew?
  • We get our first produce box tomorrow morning! We will now be getting our produce from local farms, and it's delivered right to our door. Check it out: Full Circle Farm
  • Things that seem to just happen serendipitously. Okay, so for you to fully understand how crazy this is, I must give you the backstory.  BACKSTORY:  My Saturday class usually gets out at 4 PM. The night before, my professor let's us know that we will only be going until 12:30, as he has to go out of state. I had been wanting to buy a book, but couldn't decide if I wanted a hardcopy, or if I wanted to just buy it on my iPad (I know.. tough decision). Instead of heading straight home after class, I decided to go to the University Bookstore. I have a Gift Card and figured I can just buy the book. As I am standing in front of the rack of books, I see there is a line forming. I ask the lady in front of me what it's for. With a smile she says, "It's for the book you're holding. Mindy will be here at 2." I look at my watch. It's ten after one. "What? Mindy is coming HERE?" The lady responds with, "Yeah! She's going to sign books! Go buy one, I'll hold your spot!" My spot just happened to be tenth in line. The women (almost the entire line of about 200 people, were women) around me asked me if I had any idea. I didn't! NO IDEA. I just wanted to buy her book! The story gets better….

So, there I was. About to meet Mindy Kaling from NBC's The Office. I walk up, I have my book ready for her to sign, and my phone ready for this awesome photo opportunity. She (as in Mindy) says, "Oh my gosh, I love your scarf! And look at your nails! They're like mine! We're sparkle twins!"*Her and I both had sparkly nail polish on. Almost identical shades.

At this point I am completely starstruck. Not only am I in front of someone who I watch on T.V. every Thursday night, but she is complimenting me! SHUT.UP. We pose for the picture.

I just happened to be in the right place, at the most perfect time. If my professor wouldn't have shortened the day, if I would have decided to purchase it on my iPad or elsewhere. If I would have decided to go straight home. Crazy. And so random…

Here's the proof:

I am about 150 pages into her (autographed) book and it's hilarious. Even if you aren't an Office fan, if you're a chick and like to laugh… read this book. Even if you don't like to laugh, this book would be good for you.

Super Suck Sunday

SUPER

  • People remembering my name at my Practicum. I am only there once a week and it's a HUGE office. Having someone remember my name is a pretty big deal!
  • I had my 5th Roller Derby practice today and I am still loving it! I have decided to keep it up and hope to join a team by January!
  • Due to a recent post, my mother told me what I will be unwrapping this Christmas! Oh so excited! So many recipes to try out!!
  • Tomorrow is Halloween!! We half celebrated last night with spooky cocktails, a little dress up and a Halloween inspired burlesque show. Tomorrow I will be helping out with trick-or-treaters and get to face paint for the little ones. That will be a blast!

That's an eyeball in my drink. Eeek!

Get it? Tooth…. Fairy!!

I even had fairy dust in my poach.

SUCKS

  • We took Theo to the vet and he's got a virus. *sad face* He's on a weeks worth of medications. Pretty sucky.
  • Going to the grocery store to get all the fixins to spend the night baking…and forgetting eggs, foil and pumpkin. Disaster. Oh, and running out of cupcake liners.
  • Getting a hole in your brand new socks. That sucks, right? They're BRAND FRICKIN' NEW!
  • Not being prepared for Seattle rain. I guess it's that time of the year to wear a jacket equipped with a hood and carry an umbrella. On the bright side, what's the likelihood of finding your umbrella twin in a busy city?

Super Suck Sunday

SUPER

  • All the makings of Fall. The cool crisp mornings, the changing leaves, and the pumpkins all make me very, very happy.
  • I am actually getting used to being in the office at 7AM. I have my routine down. Of course, I am completely coffee dependent…but at least I am functional.
  • Finding two new healthy addictions: Roller Derby and Hot Yoga! Both have made me sore and sweat like a pig, but it feels fantastic! My hopes are someday to be apart of the Rat City Roller Girls. Check out their awesomeness:

  • Spending a day with my Dad! We got to shoot the crap outa some targets, and we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal. I didn't know I was such a good shot!
Our Targets

Dad, Tina & Noah

Pops & I

Noah - shootin crap

I've never looked so tough.

SUCKS

  • Crying at almost every court sentencing I go to. I am told that it's good that I get emotional, because it means I care and still have a heart. Really? Watching a 2 year old wave goodbye to her father who was just sentenced to 15 years in prison HAS to illicit some emotion, right?
  • Now that I have stated my dependence on coffee - doesn't it suck when your coffee sucks? I spent many years working as a barista, and I know how to make a damn good latte'. When I take that first sip and it's bitter, weak, burnt or all the above… I'm pretty upset.
  • Sitting in 115 degree heat and 40% humidity and you hear the words, "Don't drink any water". I'm sorry, what? My mouth was officially desert status - all I wanted was water!!
  • Restaurants that have AWFUL vegetarian options!!! It's absolutely frustrating when the only thing you can eat (without modifying everything) is a salad! Stay tuned to future posts on this matter.
